Nova Blue is originally from Portland, Oregon. Even though they have had a successful transplant and are very much influenced by the expansive, creative nature of Los Angeles; part of them is still very much connected to their roots in the Northwest. Theirs is the typical rock & roll journey from hometown heroes to the small fish in a town that has 190,000 bands. In the spring of 1999, Nova Blue moves to LA and sets up shop in Venice Beach. They then start playing gigs in various clubs throughout the LA area. Nova Blue then became interested in analog recording and began to record an album at a studio called Grandma’s Warehouse in Silverlake. They finish the album in a few months and release it on their own label, Hippy Ninja Records, in May of 2002. After doing that, Nova Blue had caught the analog bug and started building their own analog studio in their garage.

Besides working on their songwriting craft, Nova Blue has always loved doing improvisational jams. When they first arrived in LA, they started an improv night and invited many musicians on stage with them. This lasted for a few months before they decided to bring it back into their studio where they could record these spontaneous compositions and then share them with the world. Nova Blue is here to stay. They are in this for the long run, because they love music and people love to listen to their music.
Many have compared them to the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, and even Jimi Hendrix. Like all of these groups, Nova Blue is original and makes an audience feel good. But why compare them to the past? To hear their musical depth and range listen to Doctor Jim, Blue, Never going down, and I need you. Hope you enjoy. If you do, sign up on the mailing list and come see Nova Blue live which is the best way to experience everything that they are. If you don’t like them, hey there’s no accounting for taste.
